Joseph “Woodsie” John O'Donnell, 72 of the Honey Pot section of Nanticoke, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Nanticoke, he was the son of the late Patrick and Katherine Maday O'Donnell.
Prior to his retirement in 2005, Woodsie worked for Luzerne County as a guard at Moon Lake Park and the County Courthouse. He was an Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. Woodsie’s favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters: Rita O’Donnell, Marie Novelli, and Carole Zakrzewski.
Surviving are: his wife of 47 years, the former Bernadette Frantz; son: Joseph ‘JJ’, Jr., Maui; daughter: Jennifer Danza, Nanticoke; grandson: Francesco Danza; brothers: Patrick, Williamsport and Bernard, Hanover Green; sisters: Loretta Urban, Denville, NJ; Alice Russamano, Newark, NJ; Patricia Cherpak, Wilkes-Barre; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 AM from Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 173 E. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Faustina Parish.
Family and friends may call Sunday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
