Waltraut (Wally) Marie Piontkowski, 74 of Nanticoke, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Celtic Hospice In-Patient Unit at Geisinger South surrounded by her family.
Born on June 20, 1941, in Lauenberg, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Kurt and Marie Bukofski Waesenberg. Wally and her husband celebrated 52 years of marriage this past November.
Prior to her retirement, she served for over 25 years as a Medical Technologist Cooridinator at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Plains Township. Wally received her Masters Degree from Bloomsburg University and her Bachelors Degree from Wilkes College.
Wally greatly enjoyed attending the Metropolitan Opera and Broadway plays. She also loved reading, cooking and baking. She was an avid artist and was a member of the Wyoming Valley Art League. Wally also loved photography and photographing her granddaughter and students at the Joan Harris Conservatory for the Arts. Spending time with her family and friends brought great pleasure to her. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed by all.
Wally is survived by her beloved husband, Norman; sons: Norman Jr., Nanticoke; Michael and his wife, Beth Ann, Plymouth; grandchildren: Sarah and Evan; sisters: Isolde and Helga, both of Germany; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 11:30 AM at St. Faustina Parish, Nanticoke. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the church, prior to the service.
